South African singer and songwriter, Babette returns with her striking new single, Hey Jack, a raw and melodic confrontation of heartbreak, betrayal, and personal resilience. Known for her fearless voice, both musically and personally, Babette delivers a single that is emotionally charged, musically inventive, and deeply relevant in a time when conversations around gender-based violence (GBV) and women speaking out are more important than ever.
Hey Jack explores the emotional aftermath of betrayal, the confusion, the unanswered questions, and the strength it takes to reclaim one’s voice. Through honest, unfiltered lyrics, Babette brings visibility to the subtle emotional patterns often present in manipulative or abusive relationships, experiences that resonate with many women today. The song’s message aligns with the growing movement of women standing up, refusing silence, and reclaiming their power in a society fighting against GBV and emotional harm.
Written by Elizabeth Labuschagne and Mark Beling, with production by Marc Beling, Hey Jack reflects Babette’s own lived experiences. As with all her music, the story is drawn from a personal chapter she struggled through. Questions she carried but could never ask aloud.
Beyond her artistry, Babette is a testament to resilience. As a cancer survivor, she continues to use her platform to advocate for strength, hope, and awareness. She is currently participating in a Guinness World Record attempt aimed at raising cancer awareness. An effort to place the most cancer-awareness ribbons on a car within a set time. The initiative aligns with her mission to uplift others facing adversity, offering visibility, solidarity, and support.
“I think the song carries a strong message about abusive relationships,” Babette explains. “It’s not something people want to think about every day, but it’s something they need to hear.”
With its soaring vocals, powerful storytelling, and bold emotional core, Hey Jack cements Babette’s presence as one of South Africa’s most dynamic and genre-defying voices. Babette is an artist unafraid to be vulnerable, unafraid to be loud, and unafraid to stand up.
