The Vaal Triangle community is celebrating an extraordinary achievement following the Rocking the Vaal 2025 festival held at Emerald Resort & Casino this past weekend. The event successfully set three new Guinness World Records, highlighting the region’s spirit of unity and collaboration.
The records achieved include:
- Largest pot of pap: A monumental pot was used to cook 2 334 kilograms of pap, doubling the previous record. This massive meal aimed to feed approximately 12 000 people, underscoring the community’s commitment to supporting those in need.
- Largest serving of kebab meat : A kebab stretching an impressive 3 kilometers was crafted and weighed 1 674kg. This surpassed the prior record of 2.047 kilometers, with 2 048 individuals participating simultaneously in grilling the meat, showcasing unparalleled community participation.
- Most people breaking bread simultaneously: A total of 607 learners gathered to break bread together, surpassing the previous record set in the USA in 2019, which involved 478 participants. This act symbolized unity and togetherness within the community.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Jaco Verwey, organizer of Rocking the Vaal and spokesperson for the GTCOC, which manages the festival, said:
“These achievements are a testament to the incredible spirit and determination of the Vaal community. Together, we’ve not only set new world records but also strengthened the bonds that tie us together.”
The festival also featured performances by renowned artists such as BlackByrd, Droomsindroom, Piesangskille, and Appel, adding to the celebratory atmosphere and drawing attendees from across the region.
Marinda Human, marketing manager from Emerald Resort and Casino, a Tsogo Sun destination, and key organizer of the event, expressed gratitude.
“The collaboration between volunteers, sponsors, and participants has been overwhelming. It’s heartwarming to see what we can accomplish when we come together for a common purpose.”
Building on the success of last year’s records for the longest crocheted scarf and largest potjiekos stew, this year’s accomplishments further solidify the Vaal Triangle’s place on the global stage.
The organizers extend their heartfelt thanks to all participants, volunteers, and sponsors who contributed to making Rocking the Vaal 2025 a resounding success.
